They didn't notice.

You'll think everyone did. Flustered is an iPhone app for small red-faced moments: guess how many people will notice, do the thing, then find out. Usually it's one or two.

Free during the TestFlight beta. iPhone for now.

In your head: everyone.

Guess first.

Picture saying the sincere thing in a meeting, with no joke on the end. Out of twenty people in the room, how many will notice?

Usually, one or two.

46%
guessed the room would notice
23%
actually did

Flustered asks the same three questions before and after: who will notice, how long they'll remember, how loud your body will be. Then it shows you the difference, time after time, until you stop needing to be told.

Someone who was there tells you.

“Honestly, no. I only remember your slide on bees.”

Instead of likes, a witness writes what actually happened, in ordinary words, and whether anyone else noticed. It's the second opinion your replay never gets.

A day takes five minutes.

Each day has a theme, one kind of moment that makes people go red. Everyone gets the same theme; you pick the stretch.

What you keep: your guess next to what happened

The heat has words.

Nobody knows what a six feels like. Everybody knows Flushed. You slide it up as it gets louder, and the words are right there: Quiet, A flicker, Warm, Pink, Hot, Flushed, Ringing, Loud.

Your own evidence, kept.

Each moment adds a guess and what happened. Today shows the pattern back to you: you usually guess the room; it's usually one or two. It's the one thing in the app that gets more convincing the more you use it.

What it looks like on your phone.

In your head: everyone. In the room: one or two.
The guess: how many people will notice, with a few of the room lit
Guess first. Only you ever see it.
How long they'll remember, as three weeks of days
How long it stays in someone else's head.
Your spotlight on Today
Your own evidence, kept.

Why it works like this.

The gap, written down

Your guess before, the truth after. The gap between them is the whole point, and it shrinks the more you look at it.

What they saw, not likes

No like button. Someone who was there writes what happened in plain words, and whether anyone else noticed. Usually no one.

It ends

Today is one screen that finishes. Five minutes, then it tells you there isn't any more. Come back tomorrow, or don't.

The replay count

A day later: are you still thinking about it? How many times did you replay it? That number is more honest than a streak, and it goes down.

Company, not pressure

“I'm going to try this. Want to be in it too?” They join you, or they watch. No deadline, nothing to fail.

Private by default

Keep it to yourself, your circle, or post it. Your guesses and your day-after check-in are yours alone.

Questions

What is Flustered? A small iPhone app about embarrassment. You pick one thing that makes you go a bit red, guess how much people will notice, do it, and then find out. Almost always: less than you thought, for less time than you thought.

What's the spotlight effect? The well-documented gap between how much you think people notice you and how much they actually do. You are the main character of your memory and a background extra in everyone else's. Flustered has you write down a guess before and what happened after, so you can watch the gap close.

How is it different from social media? There's no infinite feed and no like button. Home is one screen that ends. Instead of likes, someone who was there writes what they actually saw.

Is this about doing risky things? No. Nothing illegal, nothing dangerous, nothing at anyone else's expense. The stretches are ordinary social exposure: asking for the thing you want, being visibly new at something, saying the sincere sentence without the joke on the end. If a day isn't for you, pick something else or skip it.

Who can see what I do? You choose for each moment: just you, your witness circle, or public, and you can change it any time or share anonymously. Your before-and-after guesses and your day-after check-in are always private.

Is it free? Yes, free during the beta.

What do I need? An iPhone. Flustered is in Apple's TestFlight beta; Android is on the roadmap.

Anything else? The support page has the rest, or write to hello@flustered.app.

Try it on one small thing this week. It takes about five minutes, and nobody else will remember it.
